1. First, click on your profile pic (the larger one, not in Chrome)
Then click “Manage your Google Account”
2. Click the “Security” tab in the left column
Then set up your Recovery phone and email by clicking those options and following the instructions
3. Then return to the Security tab in the left column
This time, click on 2-Step Verification
4. A dialog window like this should appear. Select “Turn on 2-Step Authentication”
(Note: you already provided your phone number, so it’s using that as your default second factor for authentication)
5. If it worked, it will say “You’re now protected”. Click “Done”
6. On the list of Second Steps, select Authenticator
7. Click the link to download the authenticator app (for either iPhone or Android)
Install the app (on your phone)
Then click “Set up authenticator”
8. It will give you a QR code to scan with your phone (in the new Authenticator app)
Once you have scanned the code and you have a new entry in Google Authenticator for your Google account, click “Next”
9. A new code is generated by the Authenticator app every 30 seconds.
Type one of the new codes generated for your Google account and click “Verify”
10. If setup was successful, the Authenticator app will show in the list of second factor authentication options
11. Finally, click on “Backup codes”
12. Click “Get backup codes”
13. Click “Print codes” and make sure only the account user receives the printed page
